An experience for the ALL the senses

Join Rick Sammon and Juan Pons to experience one of the most majestic and amazing wildlife spectacles in North America. We are talking about Bosque del Apache, where you will find over 10,000 sandhill cranes, over 20,000 snow geese and a plethora of other wildlife. Renown for the "Blast offs" of tens of thousands of birds in the morning, Bosque del Apache is one place you MUST experience. Rick and Juan will guide you in making the most amazing images you can imagine. If you are a wildlife and/or nature photographer this workshop will inspire you.

Bosque is not only about the cranes and geese, there is lots of other wildlife on the refuge but one of the often overlooked aspects of the refuge is the spectacular landscape. While the cranes and geese with the stars of the show, both Rick and Juan will provide instruction and shooting opportunities on HDR, Panoramic Photography, Wildlife Photography, Timelapse, and Astro Photography.

Don't miss this once in a lifetime trip. We have deliberately set up this workshop with a very high instructor to participant client ratio and the costs affordable so we expect this workshop to sell quickly. Make sure to sign-up as soon as possible.

What sets my photo workshops apart

First know that both Rick and Juan I have been leading photo workshops for decades. Both of us have been going to Bosque for many years and are intimately familiar with the refuge.

We believe that in order to truly enjoy your time and get the most out of a photography tour and/or workshop you need to have small groups, and a very high ratio of instructors to participants. As with all my other workshops this will be a small group, no more than 10 clients and two photo instructors for a 5:1 ratio! Compare that most other workshops were you have one instructor and many participants in a single van. With us you are assured to have the best vantage point at all times.

As photo workshop leaders we take our responsibilities seriously. We work closely with the Wildlife Refuge and we always operate with all the proper insurance, permits and certifications.

Our home base

We will make the small town of Socorro, NM our home base during the workshop. We have set up a block reservation at one of the hotels in town and once you signup we will provide you with the necessary information.

The nearest airport is in Albuquerque, NM, about 1.5 hours drive from Socorro, NM.

What you will learn

You will be accompanied by Rick and Juan. Rick is one of the most prolific photography book authors, an acclaimed photographer and a Canon Explorer of Light. Juan is an accomplished professional photographer, and photographic educator who has a deep passion for the outdoors. We believe that the best way to teach is by demonstrating, and to this end, we will be shooting alongside you, demonstrating our vision, technique and sharing our love and knowledge of Bosque del Apache and its wildlife.

However, our priority is always YOU, and helping you get the best images YOU can get. The biggest advantage of having small groups is the flexibility they provide for customizing and adjusting both the schedule and agenda to suit the interests of the group while being able to maintain the flexibility required by variable weather. This allows us to cover only those topics that you are all interested in, including

• How to create aesthetically pleasing wildlife and landscape photographs

• Storytelling thru natural history photography

• Best use of equipment

• Digital Workflow

• Adobe Lightroom basics

• Image presentations and reviews

What to expect

These workshops are pretty intense, and as such you should not expect this to be a leisurely vacation. Our goal is to capture the best images we can during our workshop. What this means is that our days are long, often starting before dawn and ending after sunset. However, we typically will take a long lunch to rest and recuperate.

Within 2 working days of registering for the workshop you will receive a confirmation email. About 6 months before the start of the workshop you will get the details you will need to book your airfare. We will then be emailing you periodically with any pertinent information about the workshop, including checklists for clothing and gear to bring.

About 6 to 8 weeks prior to the workshop, you then start hearing from us on a more regular basis. At that point we will provide you with detailed lodging and contact information, go over more details of the workshop and get you excited and thinking about the images you want to capture during the workshop. At this time you will also receive from us a list of recommended clothing, equipment and even discounts for equipment you may want to acquire for this once on a lifetime trip.

However, we are always available to answer any questions you may have leading up to the workshop.

Tuition

Tuition for the workshop is $1,495.00 USD.

You can sign up with a $1,000 deposit. The balance ($495) is due on September 1st, 2020.
